Dear Parent/Carer

 

I can’t believe that it is nearly Christmas!  This half term will be full of festivals and fun!

Keep up the fantastic start we have had in Year 5.

Our topic this 1/2 term is:- “The Marvellous  Mexicans”

 

Topic

We are now on our travels down to Mexico to learn about the  Mayans and Aztecs.  The children will locate the main cities and towns of Mexico on a map and study the climate and culture. We will look at Tocuaro (a Mexican village) and compare it with our own locality.

 

 

 

Music

Music will be taught by Ailsa Nicholson. We will continue to develop our recorder playing skills and explore sound with our voices and instruments - linking to our science topic!

 

Literacy

Our target is to use a range of connectives in a variety of writing styles ie; meanwhile, as a result, unfortunately, although, besides, in addition ………….

 

 

Maths

Our target is to understand how to solve problems by choosing the appropriate   operation ie; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

 

Homework

Spellings (if given) will   be sent home on a Friday and will be tested the following Friday.

Times tables will be tested each week. So keep practicing!

Learning Logs will be given on a fortnightly basis (see letter inside the log book).

 

Science

Our science topic is “Changing Sound” - we will learn about vibration and how sound travels, pitch, volume and how we can change the pitch.

 

P.E.

The aim of this unit is: to give children a Biblical perspective on the Nativity Story.       

Key Questions will be: Where in the Bible is the Christmas story?

How are the stories in Matthew and Luke similar/different?

PE lessons are on Thursday with “Jenny” a professional sports coach.

No jewellery please.

Gold polo shirt, royal blue shorts and black pumps.

 

Lunch boxes

We have a very limited amount of space in the cloakroom! So, if possible, please could the children bring their packed lunch in a small lunch box/bag NOT a  large  rucksack. Thank you.

 

Uniform:-

Girls— school sweat shirt, school tie, white shirt, grey skirt, white socks and black shoes.
