Year 3 Curriculum Overview: Autumn 2
Here is an overview of what your child will be learning about this half term.
Literacy- We are going to be learning about Fables, Monsters and Aliens. We will be exploring video clips and images and creating characters and stories.
Numeracy- In numeracy we are now exploring frequency tables and will be moving on to number patterns and units of measurement. I will be sending home maths homework every other week.
Science- We are going to looking at materials and their properties. We will research inventions made in the Victorian era and how changing materials have allowed use to evolve technology.
Topic 1- Our first of three topics will be Bonfire Night looking at the history of the Gunpowder Plot and who were involved.
Topic 2- Our second topic is Remembrance Week where we will explore the reasons for Remembrance Day. The topic will focus on World War 1 and 2 and the soldiers who gave their lives.
Topic 3- Our third topic of the year is, ‘The Vile Victorians’. We will be looking into the past of children in the Victorian age, exploring the industrial revolution, child labour and Victorian schools. We will revisit the past looking at the geography of the industrial revolution, factories and the products they manufactured or mined.
Music- We are still extremely lucky to still have a music specialist who will be working with the children to develop their musical talents. The recorder lessons have gone well this half term and will continue throughout the term.
P.E- Dance is out next module in PE. This unit will help your child develop their co- ordination, balance, agility, creativity and fine and gross motor skills. The children will be creating a routine using the floor and apparatus, which contains all of the skills mentioned.
R.E- In RE we will be looking at, ‘God in us’, discussing what it means to have God with us at all times and how we celebrate the presence of a special person.
The Nativity Story will be explored and with the Christian holiday of Christmas approaching their will be a visit from the clergy to describe how the Church is preparing for Christmas. Overall a general reflection upon the impact of the birth of Jesus on the lives of Christian people today.
I would like to welcome both you and your child back to St John with St Augustine, for another enjoyable half term. Again, feel free to approach me in the playground for an informal chat and if there are any issues you wish to discuss, do not hesitate to bring them to my attention.
